Hockley Facilitation

A coaching firm that helps teams move as one: we developed a brand and website that perfectly fits the bill.

Where it started

Hockley Facilitation helps businesses break down silos, strengthen teams and get people pulling in the same direction.

David came to me through a recommendation with the beginnings of something already there: a logo he liked, built around a mountain reflected in water, and a Wix site that had never quite made it live.

Keeping what worked

We spent a lot of the early conversations talking about colour, texture, nature and how Hockley should feel before getting too deep into the design itself.

The original logo had a good idea at its centre, but the sharp geometry made it feel harder than the business behind it. I kept the mountain and its reflection, softened the shape and brought everything into a circular mark. Same idea, just calmer, simpler and much easier to use.

The existing colours stayed too, with a darker blue added to give the palette a bit more weight, alongside a set of neutrals and textures inspired by the outdoors.

Futura was already part of the identity, so I paired it with Jost across the website. It has a similar character, but it's freely available which means David isn't tied into subscriptions just to keep his own website looking like his own website.

But the thing that really brought everything together wasn't the logo…

Moving as one

David loved the idea of including a starling murmuration.

Thousands of individual birds, constantly responding to one another, changing direction and moving together as one. It felt like Hockley without needing a paragraph underneath it explaining why. Perfect!

That became the idea running through the whole website.

The murmuration sits at the heart of the hero, giving the site an immediate visual link back to that idea of individuals moving together. Further down, I took the same principle into the call to action, using JavaScript to generate a moving version of the pattern.

It's a small interaction, but it gives the identity a bit of life without turning the whole website into a showreel.

Once we had that, the rest of the site had something to build around.

I designed and built the website from scratch, keeping the setup quick and lightweight rather than loading it up with a bulky CMS. Every page can still be updated by David, and we went through the whole thing together over screen sharing so he wasn't left with a website he was afraid to touch.

Hockley went from an unpublished Wix draft and the beginnings of an identity to something much more complete: a brand with an idea behind it, and a website that can actually show people what Hockley is about.

And, importantly, something David can keep using and building on without me having to hover over his shoulder.
